This chapter covers the different propagules and encapsulation methods used in synthetic seed technology, as well as its applications, considerations, limitations and prospects. Tabulated data are presented on the reports on the production of synthetic seeds of vegetables, ornamentals, fruits and plantation crops, spices, medicinal plants, forest trees, cereals, legumes and other crops. Case studies on encapsulation of shoot tips and/or somatic embryos of bananas, rice, cardamom and groundnuts are also presented.
