Abstract

This paper discusses and provides a solution for the problem of adopting ontologies in order to model the users and the multimedia documents and to develop personalized search functionalities. First, the existing approaches that enable ontology-based semantic description of multimedia content are discussed. Then, current ontology-based solutions for personalized search functionalities inside adaptive hypermedia systems are presented. Our solution is exposed further, including the multimedia document model, the user profile development and the algorithmic solution that enables to provide personalized results to a user query. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.
