Abstract

Abnornal weather, especially severe coldness, is more frequently reported nowadays, probably due to the global climate change. So, it is getting more difficult to satisfy the passengers' thermal comfort in railway vehicle. Because most of railway vehicle is operated by electricity, the operation of HVAC system is strongly dependent on the quality of supplied electricity. In this study, the effect of supplied voltage change on the heating performance of railway vehicle was studied. The temperature distribution in the cabin under various supplied voltage conditions was also extensively studied. Based on the obtained result, the way to maximize the passengers thermal comfort was suggested. © 2012 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
