This study examines the relationship between nutrition education and the body composition of 285 high school baseball club members from Japan. The subjects were 15-16 year-old freshmen whose baseball skills and practice time were at the same level. The subjects were divided into two groups: a control group who did not receive nutrition education and an education group who received nutrition education. Results showed no differences between the control and education groups at the start of the study. After nutrition intervention, the education group (n=151) showed higher fat free body mass than the control group (n=134). Meal analysis showed higher intakes of energy and nutrients by the education group than the control group, indicating that the education group understood and carried out the suggested meal plans. For the education group, there was a positive correlation between increased fat-free body mass and increased energy intake.
