Membaca “Bad Ass” Sebagai Manifesto Seorang Antihero

Abstract

Awkarin’s Bad Ass music video is widely aired on social media. This particular video has been widely discussed and at the same time being booed due to its visual controversy. Bad Ass video, both the lyrics and the video clip can be read as a manifesto of an antihero of the millennial. Based on the attributes and signs being used, we can see some similarities between the character of Awkarin in Badass, the Zapatistas fighters, and the women wearing a ski mask in a porn video with a code name “femdom.” The use of masks by all the characters is the starting point of the analysis. The character of Awkarin is regarded as an antihero Idol who uses references to construct his image. People in social media have become a sort of voyeur in relation to the character of Awkarin. Bad Ass becomes a reflection of millennium generation who absorb everything that was rejected by the conservatives as Indonesia while being Indonesia itself is a cultural issue that will continue to take place.
