Abstract

This document is one of a set of documents, which togetherdescribe all aspects of a new Internet Printing Protocol (IPP). IPP isan application level protocol that can be used for distributed printingusing Internet tools and technologies. This document takes a broad lookat distributed printing functionality, and it enumerates real-lifescenarios that help to clarify the features that need to be included ina printing protocol for the Internet. It identifies requirements forthree types of users: end users, operators, and administrators. Thedesign goals document calls out a subset of end user requirements thatare satisfied in IPP/1.0. Operator and administrator requirements areout of scope for version 1.0
