Abstract

Wireless networks are exposed to deep multipath fading conditions when they are installed in complex indoor environments. A solution to mitigate this situation could be the use of polarization diversity techniques in reception. This chapter explores this possibility, and also presents a procedure to estimate the received cross-polarized power from wide band measurements performed at just one polarization, in the 5 GHz frequency band. After testing up to three different strategies, and once analyzed the results, an improvement of 21% in terms of received power has been detected in rooms presenting strongly multipath events. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.
