Abstract

Microalgal cultivation has attracted much attention in recent years, due to their applications in CO2 sequestration, biofuels, food, feed and bio-molecules production. The general requirements for successful microalgal cultivation include light, carbon, macronutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus, magnesium and silicates and several micronutrients. This chapter discusses the principles of microalgae cultivation with regards to essential requirements and growth kinetics.
