Abstract

Recently, Wang and Li proposed a fingerprint-based remote user authentication protocol using mobile devices. We observe that their protocol fails to provide efficient authentication, vulnerable to user masquerade attack, wrong password change phase and no provision for session key agreement. To eliminate these problems, we propose an efficient and practical fingerprint-based remote user authentication protocol using mobile devices. Proposed protocol not only overcomes all the drawbacks and problems of Wang and Li's protocol, but also provides a secure and user friendly authentication. In addition, the security and efficiency of the proposed protocol are well suited to the practical applications environment. © 2012 Springer India Pvt. Ltd.
