Abstract

Ultra-wideband (UWB) radar is widely used in the obstacle identification, and the procedure is done by analyzing the echo signals. In this paper, a novel method of target detection is proposed. The perspective of UWB communications is adopted, and this method leads to a potential way to identify obstacles during the normal communications. The selected bispectra algorithm is applied to extract the feature vector, and radial-basis function (RBF) is used to realize the obstacle identification. According to the experiment results, this method is able to identify the existence and the different distances of the obstacles measured in outdoor observed scene, with an average recognition rate of no less than 98%. © 2012 Springer Science+Business.
