Abstract

Investment in sustainable, eco-efficient production and distribution systems is fundamental for an economic model like that of Spain. In the case of agriculture, where perishable products need swift delivery in order to avoid their deterioration, it is essential to develop sustainable supply chains which will eradicate the consumer's uncertainty as regards their quality, safety and reliability of the product supply. The work presented in this paper is defined as "the design and analysis of a prototype for management of rejected loads in the agri-food logistic chain", which, on the basis of logistic processes (either full loads or groupages) seeks to give support to the treatment of rejected loads and, by controlling the technological variables involved in the processes of introduction or transfer of products along the supply chain, guarantee its quality, safety and reliability. © 2010 Springer-Verlag.
