Abstract

Cloud computing demonstrates an effective paradigm to optimise data center management and resources provisioning. A further way to optimize resource exploitation relies on cloud federation. The federation idea introduces into the cloud the possibility to dynamically increase the number of physical resources exploiting external facilities. These are provided by federated cloud providers having different administration domains and access rules but cooperating under the federation regulation. In this work we explore a way to use dynamically provided resources: migrating Virtual Machines (VMs). We discuss some reference use cases and required tools and we present a concrete implementation of an advanced monitoring agent.
