Abstract

High speed photography was performed to study the dynamics of a spherical bubble in a cluster around the far focus of an ellipsoidal mirror. Schlieren pictures of bubble evolution history were captured and sound pulses radiated during the primary collapse stage were recorded. The experimental result fundamentally agrees with the numerical calculation based on Gilmore equation, which is a validation of the generation of negative pressure of sound in water proposed by Zhang et al. (2012).
