Abstract

The absorption lines seen in the spectra of high redshift QSOs are important tools for studying the early evolution of galaxies and intergalactic medium. In this presentation I briefly review various available observations, our understanding of different types of absorption systems, and highlight some of the issues that can be addressed with ELTs. © 2006 International Astronomical Union.
