Abstract

Ultrasound contrast agents capable of adequately increasing backscatter are particulates or micro-bubbles of a size sufficient to limit their distribution to the intravascular space. While the many proposed agents vary in structure and formulation, they serve to enhance the backscatter of blood (ANDRÉ et al. 1993; SCHWARZ et al. 1994).
