Abstract

The role of location management in mobile communication is to make the seamless packet transmission to the correspondent nodes. Most research imposes mainly on how to reduce the frequency of the binding update messages, how to make the level of the signaling constant notwithstanding the increase in the number of the mobile nodes, and how to minimize the packet loss in transmission. This paper addresses these issues and develops a new technique for optimizing location management in mobile communication. Our proposed method adds a server mobile-node to existing Mobile IPv6 protocol and the server node maintains the functioning of mobile communication and has necessary information. Through these schemes, the lifetime of the mobile nodes can be increased. We provide the usefulness of our proposed method using analytical models and compare the results with the previous researches. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2007.
