Abstract

Neutron supermirrors are interference systems which reflect at small glancing angles. They consist of layers with thicknesses of a few nanometres. While in the 20 years after the such systems were proposed the number of layers was limited to 100, recent improvements in the control of layer growth and process stability now allows the production of supermirrors with over 1000 layers. For certain material combinations such supermirrors can be used to polarize the reflected neutrons.
