Abstract

In the field of classical drive technology, rotational actuators with unlimited motion range are the most common actuators. Special movements like alternating movements with halts are realized with a mechanical transmission between actuator and load, which has a certain amount of drawbacks. As a result of steadily improving electronic control, an increasing number of direct drives is advantageously employed, which can carry out a limited linear or rotational motion. Chapter 4 of the book describes the design and function of magnetic drive sections based on reluctance or electrodynamic effect, which are especially suited for the application as direct drives. These are DC, AC and polarized electromagnets, linear stepping motors and electrodynamic linear motors, planar hybrid stepping motors and planar electrodynamic motors with a motion DOF of 2 to 6. It is particularly beneficial for the user of these drive sections that not only the advantages of these actuators, but also the limits of their applicability are pointed out.
