Abstract

Recently, wavelet transform and information fusion have been used in face recognition to improve the performance. In this paper, we propose a new face recognition method based on wavelet transform and support vector machine-based fusion scheme. Firstly, an image is decomposed with wavelet transform to three levels. Then, Fisherface method is applied to three low-frequency sub-images respectively. Finally, the individual classifiers are fused using the support vector machines. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms the best individual classifiers and the direct Fisherface method on original images. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2005.
