Abstract

This paper presents the significance improvement of chatter stability in milling machining using neoprene rubber sheet as damping element. Therefore, the neoprene rubber sheet was tested to investigate the result the vibration of cutting tool and work piece in terms of surface roughness, cutting forces and amplitude. Analyzed result showed that neoprene rubber sheet which was functional as damping element controlled the vibration of cutting tool and work piece during milling machining. The table dynamometer was used to capture the cutting force and amplitude. These two parameters were references to determine the level of vibration in term of frequency domain and cutting forces in the milling machining. The results showed that the neoprene rubber sheet can diminish the values of maximum force and maximum amplitude. When the forces and amplitude values were low, the vibration generated while machining process reduced.
