T cell repertoire of many humans contains high frequencies of memory T cells specific for alloantigens. The increasing evidence implicates these cells as a barrier to allograft survival and to the induction of transplantation tolerance. This review discusses several aspects of memory T cell immunobiology pertinent to their role in transplantation. © 2007 Springer Science+Business Media, LLC.
