Abstract

Towards the end of 1938, the areas of actual anti-epidemic work retreated south-westwards due to the military situation. We have already observed in the previous Chapter that discords were sometimes observed even among those who were co-operating with each other. The Yunnan–Burma borderland was the region where imperial interests collided. It bordered on the British and French territories, namely British Burma and French Indochina. The geography magnified China’s concern over the imperialist intervention and domination.
