Abstract

This chapter provides a basic review of statistical ways to summarize archaeological data, with focus on measures of central tendency (median, mean, trimmed mean) and dispersion (interquartile range, median absolute deviation, standard deviation) in interval scales. It concludes with review of statistical summaries of enumerated data (number of observations assigned to categories in nominal scales) with proportions and medians.
