Abstract

This chapter and the following one illustrate the use of evidence-centered design (ECD) and Bayes nets to build the assessment Biomass, a prototype of an interactive, inquiry-based assessment of secondary biology. The chapter begins with a background for the project. It then summarizes domain analysis and domain modeling activities that supported the design of assessment objects and delivery processes, and describes the resulting Conceptual Assessment Framework. It describes describes the four-process delivery system used in the prototype. The following chapter provides numerical details about the models and our efforts to refine the models from data.
