External energy consumption measurements on mobile phones

Abstract

This chapter shows how to perform energy consumption measurements on mobile phones. We refer to this method as black box measurement approach as we are interested only in the overall consumption of the mobile phone. With this approach it is not possible to give a detailed description of the energy consumption per entity such as display, memory, or others, but will be explained in the following chapter. On the other side this approach is platform-independent and can therefore be used for all battery-driven devices. © 2007 Springer.
