Tangential Loading

Abstract

So far, we have considered only problems in which no tangential tractions are transmitted across the contact interface. This will be the case if the contact is frictionless [i.e. well lubricated] or if the contact interface is a plane of symmetry with regard to geometry, material properties and loading.
