Abstract

Aging is a natural and inevitable part of life. Age-specific changes to the cardiovascular system present a unique challenge for the geriatric population that has traumatic injuries. A decreased compensatory response challenges those not only in the acute phase of injury but also through rehabilitation. This section will review cardiothoracic injuries as it relates to the elderly and correspond with relevant nursing considerations.
