Abstract

This article presents a strategy for medical image management. Based on the database named AUDR (Advanced Unstructured Data Repository) developed by Beihang University, a web-based system for medical image management and collaborative processing is built. Different from other applications, the system is accessed via web browser, and allows both text-based and content-based retrieval of medical images in DICOM format. Besides, the system allows geographically separated radiologists to process and interpret the same medical image simultaneously. To import medical image into AUDR, a strategy for DICOM image import is proposed. To implement the system, a collaboration framework and a method for image transmission is proposed. System evaluation in terms of functionality and performance has been performed in order to prove the availability of the system. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.
