Clinical manifestations of HPV infections

Abstract

Human papillomavirus (HPV) infections are the causal factors of benign diseases, precancerous lesions and malignancies of various locations. The degree of causality between HPV infections and the development of these disorders varies and reaches 100% in cervical cancer. Low risk HPVs stimulate epithelial cells to excessive proliferation, causing warty lesions, whereas high risk types also possess carcinogenic potential. In this article selected clinical manifestations of HPV infections and their effects have been discussed.
