Abstract

Overlapping sphincteroplasty is a successful treatment for patients with fecal incontinence secondary to sphincter disruption or injury. This chapter describes the strategies and operative technique for the repair of a sphincter defect with an emphasis on perioperative considerations. Indications, preoperative preparation, pitfalls and danger points, postoperative care, and complications are all discussed.
