Abstract

Since 1970, variation in phenotypic traits in a field collection ofstrawberry cultivars, including foreign varieties and clones as wellas Romanian clones, have been investigated for potential use in breeding. The strawberry germplasm collection has been enlarged with genotypesobtained by intra- and interspecific crosses, androgenesis, irradiationand organogenesis. The ample variability among the 192 Fragaria and3 Potentilla genotypes, including 2x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 8x and 10x ploidylevel, covers a wide range of potentially useful traits such as fruitquality, yield and pollen fertility.
