Abstract

Gender and feminist studies have been developed in several areas of the humanities and social sciences in Brazil, contributing to the consolidation of a wide field of research, marked by an epistemological, theoretical and methodological heterogeneity. However, the literature indicates that the gender field has experienced a significant crisis, mainly from the criticism that has been coming from the feminists of the third wave. We became interested in analyzing whether and how such criticisms have marked production in social psychology in the Brazilian context. For this, we identified and analyzed the productions on gender published in Psychology & Society magazine, from 1996 to 2010. In this article we present general characteristics of the articles focused on quantitative aspects and analyzed in qualitative terms, the forms of use of the gender concept. It was concluded that gender is a multidimensional category that requires specifications when used as an analytical category.
