Abstract

Parthenogenesis has hitherto been reported in only a single species of Australian chironomid: Lundstroemia parthenogenetica Freeman. It is here described in two further species: Limnophyes vestitus (Skuse) and another that cannot so far be distinguished from the Palaearctic Corynoneura scutellata Winnertz, the latter being a new record for this country. Notes on biology and adult, pupal and larval morphology are given for both species. Also, L. parthenogenetica is recorded for the first time from eastern Australia. Copyright © 1968, Wiley Blackwell.
