Pathological scarring is a common condition in daily clinical routine and potentially constrains affected patients in both aesthetically and functionally. To treat these patients adequately the different types of scars have to be evaluated accurately and continuously. Several qualitative and quantitative tools are available to categorize the type and severity of scars and to monitor the efficacy of treatment. This article reviews currently available measures to evaluate individual scars subjectively and objectively.
