Abstract

After introducing the concept of Society of Conscience according to Draganescu and Kafatos, machine consciousness (self-awareness) is discussed. Ways to build a conscious machine are then examined. Finally biomedical engineering is positioned in context of better understanding of both human and artificial consciousness. © 2009 Springer.
