Abstract

This 215 page book titled 'Seaweeds of India - the diversity and distribution of seaweeds of Gujarat coast' is a publication based completely on data collected through systematic and extensive field study. This book discusses the distribution and diversity of 100 genera of seaweeds, of which, 24 are new to the Gujarat coast. This book is organized into various higher taxa including Chlorophyta, Phaeophyta and Rhodophyta containing various families within these. This book also contains high quality images, taxonomical descriptions, ecology, distribution, abundance and seasonality of the various genera. This book also lays emphasis on the rapid development of Gujarat which is likely to affect the seaweed population of the area negatively. This book will be useful for people engaged in coastal research and development.
