Abstract

Economic and social changes in the Czechoslovak countryside are traced from 1945. There have been changes in the mode of production, in the social structure, in the structure of the residential network, in the functional use and spatial arrangments in rural residential areas, and, particularly, in the quality of living of the rural population. These are discussed. Future concerns are to provide the population with a nutritionally adequate high-quality diet, to have a sufficient domestic food supply response to requirements, and to attain self-sufficiency in the production of foods whose components can be grown in the Czechoslovakian climate.
