Abstract

Vehicular communication systems can be used to create more efficient traffic control systems at road intersections. This paper presents a new clique-based traffic control strategy, which uses communication between vehicles to control the flow of traffic through an intersection. A traffic simulation is used to compare the proposed strategy with existing strategies, including traditional traffic lights, and virtual traffic lights. The results show that the proposed traffic control strategy creates very efficient traffic flow, outperforming both of the existing strategies.
