Abstract

The influence of technology in the health-care sector has led to new approaches and services. Several services have been modified, improving: (i) primary healthcare, (ii) reaction time, and (iii) information management. Nevertheless, Colombian patients, who are aware of technological advances in health-care, are dissatisfied regarding the available and the offered telemedicines services. Regarding dentistry, several technological tools are available for diagnosis and treatment of oral diseases, which in most of the cases are preventable, i.e. cavities. Nevertheless, technological developments are uncommon and less frequent than in other health-care sectors. Furthermore, the innovation with respect to techniques for proper cavities diagnosis and current technological tools do not offer suitable solutions, in addition, existing methods and tools need to be merged with necessary promotion and prevention. Therefore, the development of a tele-dentistry platform is crucial. The platform should allow the tracking and diagnosis of dental cavities following the standards of the International Caries Detection and Assessment System (ICDAS). Consequently, this paper presents a new tele-dentistry platform for cavities diagnosis.
