Abstract

Fractures of the clavicle are seen extremely commonly in the children's fracture clinic. The vast majority are of the diaphysis and are caused by a fall on the outstretched hand. These low-energy fractures occur in children who have an excellent potential for remodeling. After 7-10 days a mass forms over the affected clavicle: this represents a healing fracture callus and disappears within another 2-3 weeks when the fracture has stabilized. © Springer-Verlag London Limited 2010.
