Abstract

Starting from the evidence that surveillance cameras are increasingly present in urban cities, this works aims at taking these devices as an entrance to reflect upon contemporary forms of sociability. We tried to map the practices, associations, themes and tensions that emerged from the collectiveness in the urban monitoring network of Guaruja (SP, Brazil), pointing out the statements that struck the most. Then, we designed a cartography of surveillance in the city, based on the method of Analysis of Controversies. This method focus on facts and statements enrolled in the forces in action, throwing evidence on the different translations of an event, since itsgenesis, passing though the contemporary situation and prospecting the future of the network. Specifically, we focused on the experiences of security and visibility, as well as their resonances along the collective.
