Abstract

The article discusses spousal abuse within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (LDS). Particular focus is given to the emotional abuse of wives. According to the author, LDS policies for responding to abuse can sometimes be ambiguous and do not fully meet the needs of women in the Church. It is suggested that additional education and training on abusive relationships is needed both for Church members and local leaders. The author stresses the role of parenting in preventing abuse. Other topics include premarital counseling, accountability, and Church disciplinary measures for abusers.
