Spanish dialect atlases provide an abundance of information on the phonetic variations of the yeísmo. However, the most commonly used collection method, based on the interviewer's perceptive interpretation, can lead to ambiguities or confusion. The present essay not only proves that the use of acoustic phonetic analysis techniques allows for a more objective categorization of the stimuli, but its use also makes a more rational and systematic classification of the detected allophones possible.
