Abstract

Background: Knowledge in everyday life can affect the nutritional status of children under five, this can be seen from the consumption of food given to children. Objective: This study aims to determine the nutritional status of children under five, the knowledge of mothers about nutrition and the factors that affect the adequacy of the nutritional status of children under five in Medan Tuntung District. Methods: This study is a descriptive correlational study. The population in this study were mothers who have children under five using total sampling for sampling with the inclusion criteria of mothers who have toddlers, can read, write, communicate well and have KMS. The number of samples used in this study were 40 respondents. Data collection was done by filling out a questionnaire and looking at the toddler's KMS. The data analysis technique used is Chi-square. Results: The results showed that 45.0% of the respondents had less knowledge and 52.5% of the nutritional status of children under five was deficient. The study also showed a significant relationship between maternal knowledge about toddler nutrition where the p value was <0.05 (p = 0.000). Conclusion: Based on the research results, it is recommended that health workers provide more frequent counseling to mothers with toddlers about the importance of nutritional status in toddlers.
