Abstract

This paper presents an approach to the categorization of Web search results based on a domain ontology that represents specific long term user's interests. The idea is to leverage the information in the considered ontology to classify results related to queries formulated in the topical context represented by the ontology. To efficiently manage the knowledge represented in a domain ontology for a categorizaton task, we propose a methodology to convert any domain ontology into its granular (taxonomy like) representation. In this paper, both the categorization process based on granular ontologies, and some evaluations that show the effectiveness the approach are presented. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.
