Abstract

The article discusses whether museums are failing to develop their staff with the skills they need. Opportunities to master essential skills in areas such as influencing, negotiation, and advocacy among senior staff are limited. Some are even promoted and given the responsibility without first displaying the aptitude or being given the training to do this. As a sector, managers can collaborate in nurturing talent by combing a structured approach to mentoring and sharing development job opportunities across funding bodies.
