Abstract

Kidney transplant is the treatment of choice for children with end-stage kidney disease due to the beneficial effects on growth and development. Fundamental to the success of the transplant procedure is the close collaboration among multiple disciplines including transplant surgery, transplant anesthesia, pediatric intensivists, and transplant nephrology. Awareness of the key surgical and urologic issues as well as the potential complications helps guide early posttransplant management in order to optimize outcomes.
