The paper describes some elements of the political crisis that led to the dictatorship (1973- 1990) and to human rights violations in Chile. It refers to the legal defense and the clinical and psychosocial care for victims and their families as expressions of moral, professional, and citizen resistance. It summarizes the policies of the post-1990 transition governments regarding truth and reparation for victims, and considers the issues of justice and social memory. Finally, the text highlights some of the conclusions of the articles included in this special issue, collecting the academic efforts to reflect and analyze the problems of the social and individual memory of human rights violations, reparation, and political reconciliation from the perceptions of different social groups. © 2013 by Psykhe.
