Abstract

A cyber-physical system (CPS) is a system featuring a tight combination of, and coordination between the system's computational and physical elements. Although much research has addressed modeling and simulation of such systems, most solutions usually do not cover all requirements from different domains. Rather, these solutions restrict the development environment and reduce its flexibility by enforcing the use of a specific software platform and tightly-coupled tools. This paper presents problems and challenges of CPS and discusses a MDA based Modeling & Simulation framework, which has a loosely coupled architecture, to enable design, modeling & simulation of large-scale, heterogeneous CPS systems in an integrated manner. Meta-model based Model Driven Architecture (MDA) is realized for dynamic reuse of simulation model across platforms in this paper at first. Then the paper introduces an Extended HLA architecture based on multi-layers and multi-federation and its implementation, which is realized based on Resource Management Federate (RMF) technique. Finally, Federate Integration Architecture (FIA) and its Federate Executive Infrastructure (FEI) are described, which are realized based on Web service and OGSI.
