Abstract

Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) includes all acute leukemias characterized by cells of other than lymphoid origin. AML subgroups with special clinical features have been defined by morphologic, immunologic, cytogenetic, and molecular techniques as discussed in Chaps. 16, 17, and 18. All subtypes other than acute progranulocytic leukemia (APL) are discussed in this chapter and APL is discussed in Chap. 23. This chapter highlights recent advances in prognostic prediction, treatment, determination of minimal residual disease, and its potential use in making therapeutic decisions.
